Goalkeeper Simon Mignolet says Liverpool must keep building the confidence ahead of Wednesday’s Europa League final against defending champions Sevilla.

Liverpool booked their place in Basel with a 3-1 aggregate victory over Villarreal in the last-four stage, with England internationals Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana both scoring in the 3-0 second-leg win.

The Reds’ only chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season will be to win the Europa League, with the inconsistent form in the Premier League leaving the club in eighth place.

Jurgen Klopp’s men suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Swansea City on May 1 but they managed to bounce back with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Watford a week later.

The 1-1 draw on Wednesday against former top-flight champions Chelsea will have provided another boost ahead of the clash against Sevilla, with a late Christian Benteke strike claiming a share of the spoils after Eden Hazard had opened the scoring.

Liverpool do have a final league game to play away at West Brom on Sunday but a much-changed team is expected in preparation for the tough test in Basel.

Mignolet is hoping the players can build some good momentum for the final and continue to show their great grit and determination.

“You just want to go into the final with confidence and the only way to do that is by putting in performances,” he said.
“We have to keep that going. We have to show that mentality to never be beaten.”

Klopp’s men are slight 1.73 favourites to win the Europa League outright while Sevilla are priced at 2.00 to win the trophy for a third straight year.
