The Wales national football team is on the verge of automatic qualification to the Euro 2020 tournament, played next summer all over Europe. They are facing Hungary in Cardiff on Tuesday evening in the ultimate final of their qualification journey and it is a true winner takes it all issue. Wales kept their chances alive by comfortably beating Azerbaijan on Saturday and are rearing to go in front of their home fans.

Hungary is second in the group with 12 points in seven games and the Dragons follow 3rd with 11 points. It all comes down to the match at Cardiff and even a draw will not do to either of the teams: Slovakia is hanging back at 10 points and playing at home against Azerbaijan, meaning that in case of Wales and Hungary drawing, Slovakia will proceed with a win. While Ryan Giggs’ men have another option to qualify through Nations League playoffs, that path is remarkably harder than winning the automatic qualification right now.

Wales had a difficult start to their Euro 2020 qualification campaign, despite winning the first issue against Slovakia 1-0. The victory was followed by defeats to eventual group winners Croatia and now the biggest rival Hungary. Wales managed to beat Azerbaijan twice and drew with Croatia and Slovakia, leaving the decision to the final game of the qualifying tournament.

Wales and Hungary have not faced each other often, before the first qualifier the previous encounters were international friendlies from 2004-2005. Hungary has somewhat struggled lately, losing to Croatia 3-0 and to Slovakia 1-2 at home. Their friendlies against Uruguay and Montenegro also ended in defeat. Needless to say though, that the Hungarians are hungry for victory and will not go down easy. They also beat Croatia already in the group, so they have immense quality in their squad.

Ryan Giggs is likely to have all his primary weapons available for the Tuesday’s encounter. Gareth Bale is fit again and worked 60 minutes on Saturday. Aaron Ramsey got some much needed match preparation coming in as a sub and is likely ready to go. Wales hasn’t lost when the duo has been on the field simultaneously since the Nations League final game in November 2018 – and they’re not going to start losing now.
