England full-back Nathanial Clyne has revealed his delight having penned a long-term deal with Liverpool.

The 24-year-old has been a standout performer for Southampton over the last couple of seasons and had been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United over the past few weeks.

However, Liverpool have beaten their rivals to Clyne’s signature and the Three Lions defender is looking forward to his future at Anfield.

He told the club’s official website: “I’m delighted and it’s a dream move for me to come here and play for such a big club with all of its history. I can’t wait to get started.

“As soon as Liverpool showed their interest in me, I was happy and just wanted the deal to go through.

“The gaffer has shown a lot of interest in me and this is a place where I can improve as a player, I think. It’s definitely a good opportunity to come here and try to fulfil my potential.”

The move for Clyne sees yet another star leave St Mary’s for Anfield, with Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Rickie Lambert all previously making the switch to Merseyside.

Liverpool have been keen to get their business done early in the summer transfer market, with James Milner, Danny Ings, Adam Bogdan, Joe Gomez, Roberto Firmino and now Clyne all signing.

The Reds start their Premier League campaign with a trip to Stoke City and Liverpool are 2.38 to win on August 8.
