Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe believes midfielder Harry Arter will earn further international honours with the Republic of Ireland if he maintains his current form at club level.
The 26-year-old has started all eight of the Cherries Premier League matches so far this season, and he played an influential role as his side secured an emphatic 6-1 victory over Hull City at the Vitality Stadium on Saturday.
The former Charlton youngster has only won three international caps for Ireland since making his debut in June last year, and he has yet to make an appearance for Martin O’Neill’s side in a competitive fixture.
Despite that lack of action at international level, Howe believes Arter is likely to feature on a more regular basis for his country if he maintains his current form.
“I think the players’ performance will dictate what happens on that side,” said Howe of Arter’s international chances.
“They’ve got to get their Bournemouth form right first and the rest will follow. “When you talk about Harry the last few weeks he’s been absolutely terrific for us. So I’m sure if he continues that form he’ll get rewarded.”
Howe insists that Arter is not the only member of his squad who is enjoying a good run of form, and he has praised his team for their collective success over recent weeks.
“We’ve got some very good footballers here and some very intelligent footballers,” the 38-year-old continued.
“The way we play, it’s not easy, it’s the hardest way to play I believe. So there’s a lot of responsibility on their shoulders, but they take that very well.”
Bournemouth will be looking to make it a fourth Premier League match without defeat when they play host to Tottenham on Saturday.
The Cherries are available at 3.75 to secure all three points from the match, while Spurs are priced at 1.95 and the draw is on offer at 3.50.
