Everton boss Roberto Martinez has confirmed veteran defender Sylvain Distin will be back in the squad for their Premier League clash with West Brom under the lights at The Hawthorns on Monday night.
The Frenchman has been struggling with a hamstring injury of late and was forced to watch from the sidelines in all of the Toffees’ last three games.
However, the 36-year-old has been progressing well in his recovery and the centre-back’s calming influence will be a massive boost for Everton as they prepare to travel south to the West Midlands to face the Baggies early next week.
Martinez is pleased to have Distin available as his side, who are 2.25 to win at West Brom on Monday, and is expecting the player to make a return after coming through training with the first-team during their training camp in Tenerife this week.
He said: “Sylvain has come through four sessions now and has had no reaction.
“That straightaway has been one of the benefits. He has been able to work with the group with no effects to him.”
Neither Everton nor West Brom could break the deadlock in their goalless draw at Goodison Park earlier in the season but the visitors have come a long way since then and will be fancied to find the back of the net against a Baggies outfit who are sat just three points above the relegation zone in the Premier League table.
