Danny Guthrie wants a Blackburn Rovers to use their first win of the season as motivation when they travel to face Hull City in the Championship on Saturday.

Rovers were languishing in the bottom three without a league win this term before a brace by Jordan Rhodes and a late strike from substitute Tom Lawrence saw them get off the mark with a 3-0 triumph over Charlton Athletic.

It was a vital win for the Ewood Park club who now sit in 19th place in the standings with seven points from eight games played.

They are still just one point above the drop zone, but the psychological boost of being out of the relegation places will give the players a shot in the arm as they travel to the KC Stadium this weekend.

Performances have been steadily improving, with the 2-2 draw against Queens Park Rangers prior to the Charlton success a decent display by Gary Bowyer’s side.

And now, after picking up all three points against the Addicks, former Newcastle man Guthrie has urged his team-mates to push on and try to get a positive result against the high-flying Tigers.

“We’ve got that first win out of the way, it’s no longer hanging over our heads, and now we can look forward to a good game next Saturday,” he said.

“It’ll be a really good test for us but it’s one that we will go into with a lot of confidence after the way we’ve played in these last three games.”

Rovers are priced at 4.00 to down Steve Bruce’s men while the hosts can be backed at 1.95 to claim their fifth Championship win of the campaign.
