Olympique Lyon have knocked out Lille from the Coup de France on penalties.

The match was decided via spot-kick after both sides played 2-2 in regulation time.

The first chance of the game came Lille’s way. Edon Zhegrova received a pass from André Gomes as his right-footed shot was blocked from the right side of the box.

The hosts eventually drew the first blood through Rayan Cherki, who right-footed the shot from a difficult angle on the right to the top right corner. He netted the opening through an assist from Alexandre Lacazette.

The former Arsenal later made it two for the hosts when he left-footed shot from the center of the box to the bottom left corner.

Lille began to settle into the game, and they began to figure out ways to reduce the deficit.

Jonathan David’s header from Edon Zhegrova’s cross went over the bar.

They continued to pressurize their hosts as Bradley Barcola was shown the yellow card for a bad foul after initially escaping a book a few minutes before the incident.

Their pressure eventually paid off as they were awarded a penalty.

Before the half-hour mark, Benjamin André drew a foul in the penalty area, and Corentin Tolisso was the victim.

David stepped up to convert the penalty with a right-footed shot to the bottom left corner, giving Lille a route back into the game.

With the deficit already halved, Lille began the search for the equaliser as they continued to mount pressure on their hosts. Jonathan Bamba failed to hit the target when right footed shot from outside the box missed.

There was a minute delay in the match. Malo Gusto was taken off after sustaining what looked to be a thigh injury. He was replaced by Castello Lukeba.

Assisted by Rayan Cherki with a through ball Bradley Barcola had a chance to make it 3-1, but his right-footed shot from outside the box was saved in the center of the goal.

Lille eventually restored parity in the 64th minute when Zhegrova’s left-footed shot from the center of the box to the high center of the goal.

After 90 minutes, no winner could emerge. The game went straight into penalties afterward.

Lyon converted their spot kicks through Gomes, Tolisso, Dembele, Maxence Caqueret, Lovren, Gomes scored his penalty kick alongside Carbellla, but Mohamed Bayo lost his penalty after it was saved.

Timothy Weah also hit the post with his penalty, and Dejan Loveren won the game for Lyon with his penalty. He blasted into the middle of the post.

Ligue 1 champions, PSG were also kicked out of the competition by Marseille.
