Roberto Martinez has challenged his Everton side to show more consistency if they are to mount a challenge for a top-four finish in the Premier League.

The Toffees have shown their potential in a 3-0 win at Southampton and a 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Goodison Park, but they have also failed to find the net in recent clashes with Manchester City, Tottenham and Swansea City.

And Martinez hopes to see his best outfit on display on Monday when they travel to West Brom, although the Spaniard does have injury problems, with both John Stones and Seamus Coleman doubts for the clash with the Baggies.

He told reporters: “The two performances Southampton away and Chelsea at home have shown what we can achieve. Now we need consistency over the term of the season.

“Our level of performances have probably been better than the points return. I’d rather have the performances than the points at this stage, but we are aware of the level of competition we have faced so far.”

West Brom started the new season without a win in their first three league games, but since then they have picked up seven points from a possible nine and kept three consecutive clean sheets.

And that upturn in form means that Martinez is aware how tough it will be to try and gain a positive result in the Black Country, and he added: “The focus is to try and go and be ourselves, scoring goals and breaking one of the best defensive units in the Premier League.”

Everton are 2.40 to defeat West Brom, with the draw 3.25, while the Merseysiders are available at 13.00 to finish in the top four.
