Tottenham have won the race to sign Etienne Capoue, with Toulouse midfielder set to become Andre Villas-Boas’ fourth major signing of the summer.
The 25-year-old was linked with several Premier League clubs earlier in the close-season and was thought to be very close to joining Cardiff City at one point after they had a £9million bid accepted.
However, Spurs have confirmed they have reached an agreement with the French club and he is set to link up with the north Londoners for the upcoming campaign.
It is thought they have paid in the region of £10million for the France international, who has also attracted the attention of Arsenal, Everton, Liverpool and Atletico Madrid in the past.
Capoue, who has seven full caps for France, first made the breakthrough at Toulouse in 2007 and last year was named in the Ligue 1 Team of the Year.
Capoue, who can also play at centre-back, joins Paulinho, Nacer Chadli and Roberto Soldado as Tottenham’s new recruits over the summer ahead of the big kick-off with AVB’s side going to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the Spurs boss has admitted Real Madrid target Gareth Bale will not be involved in the start of the campaign because he is carrying an injury that has prevented him from taking part in a full pre-season, and meant he missed Wales’ goalless draw with the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday.
