Manchester City midfielder David Silva could yet feature for his side in the eagerly-awaited derby clash with Manchester United on Sunday.

With the Premier League expected to be an open contest this season, with as many as five clubs looking as though they have a realistic chance of picking up Manchester United’s crown next May, the importance of the first Manchester derby of the season is massive so the inclusion of Silva would be a big boost for City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

The Manchester City playmaker picked up a thigh injury on international duty with Spain and was not expected to be fit for Sunday but he completed a full training session on Friday and was part of the final warm-up at Carrington on Saturday morning.

Pellegrini now has a big decision to make as to whether start with Silva or keep faith with Frenchman Samir Nasri.

The Chilean said: “We will see on Sunday which the best eleven is to have against United.”

Meanwhile, United goalkeeper David De Gea insists there is a feeling of confidence flowing through the United squad ahead of the clash at Eastlands.

De Gea believes that it was crucial for the Red Devils to get off to a winning start in the Champions League on Tuesday night after a convincing performance to beat Bayer Leverkusen 4-2 and the former Atletico Madrid man revealed there is a feeling a positivity running through the side.

De Gea said: “The (Champions League) victory has boosted our confidence for Sunday, it was important to kick off with a win; we made a good start and got the three points, which gives us peace of mind.

“We’ve since had a few days to prepare for City and we’re looking forward to the match.”
