Bournemouth have expressed their delight that a player of Jack Wilshere’s calibre has joined the club.

The Arsenal and England midfielder has joined the south coast side on a season-long loan deal with a view to playing regular first-team football and getting his career on track.

The 24-year-old has been blighted by injuries in recent seasons and made just three appearances for Arsenal last season although he was named in England’s Euro 2016 squad by Roy Hodgson.

Wilshere did not start a game for the Gunners this term, however, and manager Arsene Wenger let it be known that he would be willing to let the player move out on loan in a bid to get the games he needs.

There was reported from Italian giants AC Milan and Roma, along with Crystal Palace, but Wilshere choose to join Eddie Howe’s club.

Bournemouth chief executive Neil Blake said the deal is a big moment for Cherries fans who will relish the chance to see Wilshere in action. “Jack is a fantastic addition to the club,” said Blake.

“He is a player that needs no introduction and one that, quite rightly, our supporters will be excited to see in a Bournemouth shirt.

“He will bring a wealth of international and Premier League experience, so we are delighted to be able to welcome a player of his calibre to the club.”

Wilshere has 34 England caps under his belt but with Granit Xhaka, Francis Coquelin, Mohamed Elneny, Santi Cazorla, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Ozil all pushing for places in the Arsenal midfield, Wenger clearly felt now was the right time to send him out on loan.

He could make his Bournemouth debut against West Brom on September 10.

The Cherries are 2.00 to win the game with Albion at 4.00 and the draw is 3.20.
