Jay Rodriguez has urged his West Brom team-mates to take confidence from their 2-0 victory over League Two outfit Exeter in the FA Cup third round on Saturday.

Rodriguez was one of the goalscorers during the contest at St James Park as the Baggies recorded their first victory in 22 matches, a run that stretches back to the middle August.

The triumph was also Albion’s first victory following the appointment of Alan Pardew as manager and Rodriguez is hoping his side can now build on that success, as they currently sit second-bottom of the Premier League standings and are four points adrift of safety.

“You see what winning can do for teams in general, no matter what league you’re in,” the former Southampton forward said.

“When you’re on a winning streak you feel unbeatable and obviously on the other side you find it hard. You get into a rut of not winning, you can feel it in the team.”

Rodriguez insists top-flight survival is the Baggies’ number one priority for the rest of the season, although a good run in the FA Cup would also lift what has been a disappointing campaign to date for the club.

“Our priority now is to start climbing the Premier League table,” Rodriguez added.

Albion are next in action when they play host to Brighton in the Premier League on Saturday and they are priced at 2.10 to win that contest, while the Seagulls are available at 4.00 and the draw is on offer at 3.10.
