Midfielder Tom Huddlestone insists he cannot wait to get started after Derby County paid £2million for the Hull City star.

Huddlestone started his career at Derby after graduating from the academy and he made his senior debut at just 16.

He went on to make 88 appearances for the club in a three-year spell, before Tottenham snapped him up.

The 30-year-old made 144 appearances for Spurs and scored eight goals before then making the move to the KCOM Stadium.

Huddlestone turned out 135 times for the Tigers, who paid £5million for his services but acted too late in their attempts to keep him.

Derby activated the release clause in his contract earlier this week and Huddlestone admits that he cannot wait to get going under boss Gary Rowett.

He said: “Once Derby had activated (the release clause), Hull decided to come and, to be fair, if they came maybe three weeks ago before Derby were interested I’d have happily stayed there.

“But once I got wind of serious interest from Derby, and the manager wanting me to bring me back here, it was a no brainer.

“When I left (Derby) I was very young and it was a club like Tottenham driving me there. When I left I said I’d like to come back at some stage and thankfully I’ve had the chance.”

Huddlestone will be hoping to help the Rams earn promotion this season and they are priced at 13.00 to win the title.
