Charlie Mulgrew says Blackburn Rovers are in for a tough test at Gillingham on Saturday as they seek to secure automatic promotion.

Rovers are unbeaten in seven and sit at the top of the League One table, but they could drop out of the top two if Wigan and Shrewsbury in second and third respectively win their games in hand.

Gillingham are in 11th spot and could still make a late move into the play-off places, and Mulgrew says Blackburn cannot afford to underestimate their hosts on Saturday.

“Every game in this league has been hard. We’ll be ready for a tough challenge,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“Every game we’ve gone into we’ve looked to win and this one will be no different at the weekend. It’s a big game for us, just as the last 30-odd games have been and we’ll be ready for it.”

Blackburn managed a 3-0 win over Blackpool in their last League One outing but Mulgrew says there is still room for improvement as they seek to secure promotion to the Championship.

He added: “It was a difficult first half for us against Blackpool and I don’t think we played as well as we can.

We need to hope our quality comes through on top and see a game out and fortunately we won 3-0.”

Blackburn are 2.50 to win League One outright and 1.75 to secure all three points at Gillingham on Saturday.
