Celtic captain Scott Brown has been named in the Scotland squad to take on England after coming out of international retirement.

The 31-year-old announced his retirement ahead of the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign. Brown hinted recently that he would be open to returning to the fold, as Scotland prepare to go head-to-head with neighbours England at Wembley on November 11.

Brown has missed a total of three games during his short time in retirement and will likely start the clash with the Three Lions, who are priced at 1.13 to win Group F outright.

Boss Gordon Strachan admitted that retiring was the right decision for Brown at the time, as he looked to focus on his domestic football.

However, he believes that Brown is in a different place now and feels he can play a big role in trying to help Scotland secure a place in Russia.

Strachan said: “Scott retired in August when he was in a different place to where he is now. At that time, it was beneficial for him and Celtic that he retired from international football.

“We respected that, but Scott is in a different place now and feels he can help us in our quest to get to a major finals.”

Meanwhile, Hull’s Robert Snodgrass has also been named in the squad despite picking up an ankle injury.

The Tigers said on October 25 that the midfielder would be out for a month, but Strachan is hopeful he can be back in time for World Cup qualifiers with England and Slovenia this month.
