Celtic have had an undisclosed bid for forward Nadir Ciftci accepted by Dundee United as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new campaign.
The Bhoys had a £900,000 offer for the 23-year-old turned down earlier this week, but it now appears that Ronny Deila’s club have made an improved bid for the frontman.
The Turkish player joined Jackie McNamara’s Tangerines in the summer of 2013 and he has gone on to score 25 league goals during his two seasons in the Scottish Premiership.
English club Wigan have also had a bid in excess of £1million accepted for the former Portsmouth player, but it now appears he has turned down the opportunity to move south of the border after his representative Pierre van Hooijdonk previously confirmed that he is delighted by the interest from Celtic.
He said: “I know that there’s been an accepted offer from Wigan but Nadir has said no to that offer. He is flattered by Celtic’s interest but that is quite normal when you realise the size of the club. Anyone would be interested.”
The former Hoops striker, who spent two seasons at Celtic Park between 1995 and 1997, admitted that his client was in no rush to make a decision about where his future lies and that he was keen to maintain his strong relationship with the Tangerines.
Van Hooijdonk added: “Our relationship with Dundee United is a very good one and we want to keep it that way.”
Should the Hoops complete the signing of Ciftci then it will enhance their position as overwhelming 1.03 favourites to win the Scottish Premiership next season.
