Cardiff City winger Craig Noone is looking forward to Saturday’s FA Cup fifth round tie with Wigan and views it is a welcome distraction to their Premier League relegation battle.

The Bluebirds host the FA Cup holders this weekend as they look to make it into the last eight of the competition and Noone believes the game comes at a good time as it means they can take a break from their Premier League struggles.

Cardiff sit firmly in the bottom three after a goalless draw with Aston Villa on Tuesday but a win over the Latics might just be the perfect platform for them to build some form for the relegation scrap ahead.

Noone says they can take heart from their previous results in the Cup and then he hopes they can reproduce that sort of form when they get back to league action against Hull on February 22.

He said: “We’ve won two cup ties so far and as far as I’m concerned that has simply given us confidence that has reflected in our league performances.

“If we can play well and win another tie we can take that into our next league match against Hull, and that will do us a lot of good.”

Cardiff are favouites to progress past the Championship side this weekend, but Noone knows it will be tough against Uwe Rosler’s side.

He added: “We need to concentrate on this game, prepare well for it, and try to keep the momentum in the cup rolling.”

Cardiff can be backed at 2.24 to win on Saturday, with Wigan on offer at 3.10 and the draw is available at 3.22.
