Captain Rob Jones told Rovers Player that he believes the players can’t allow themselves to get carried away in Saturday’s local derby game against Sheffield Wednesday.
Rovers take part in the first South Yorkshire derby of the season at Hillsborough and Rob reiterated the importance of staying focused throughout the game in order to gain points.
“It’s important for me to put in a good performance, but it’s the performance of the team which is more important,” he said.
“I think these sorts of games mean more to the supporters; players have to keep a level head and play the ninety minutes like they do in any game.
“Yes we all know that there is the added spice of it being a local derby but we can’t allow ourselves to get carried away.
“If you let yourself wander in the mind, it affects the way that you play the game and the way the game goes. It’s up to us to be professional and do our job properly. We have got to concentrate on what we are doing, we’ve got to prepare the best that we possibly can and hopefully that will be enough on the day.
“We’ve got to concentrate on Doncaster Rovers and not worry about anybody else; it might sound harsh but it’s the truth – we need the points as much as anybody else.”
