Bayern Munich manager Carlo Ancelotti was full of praise for James Rodriguez after his starring role in Tuesday’s 3-0 win at Schalke.

James joined the Bavarians on a two-year loan deal from Real Madrid during the summer and made his first start at Schalke.

The Colombia international played a crucial role in all three of Bayern’s goals as he won the penalty for Robert Lewandowski’s opener, scored the second himself and provided the assist for Arturo Vidal with 15 minutes to play.

James endured a tough time in Madrid and started just 13 La Liga games last season but has made a strong start to his Bayern career, and Ancelotti was quick to praise the former Porto and Monaco forward after the match.

“James played very well, with good combinations for the benefit of the team. Physically, he is still not at 100 per cent yet though,” Ancelotti told Sky.

“We played well from start to finish, with high intensity and defended compactly. But today they were all strong so it’s difficult to single out a player. I’m happy with everyone.”

Bayern moved to the top of the Bundesliga as a result of the victory and they are 1.13 to win the German title outright.

Borussia Dortmund and Hannover could both move ahead of Ancelotti’s side if they win their respective games on Wednesday, with BVB available at 6.50 to win the Bundesliga title.
