Brendan Rodgers has called for Celtic to make a fast start in Wednesday’s Champions League clash at home to Borussia Monchengladbach as the hosts prepare for the crucial clash.

It has been a mixed bag for Celtic in the European competition so far this season, having been thrashed 7-0 by Barcelona before drawing 3-3 with Manchester City in a thrilling encounter.

That solitary point has left the Bhoys sitting third in Group C whilst Monchengladbach are yet to get off the mark after a 4-0 loss to the Citizens and narrow 2-1 defeat to the Catalans.

Before the group matches started, many were already tipping City and Barca to clinch the top two positions and qualify for the next Champions League stage, leaving the other two to fight it out for the Europa League spot.

Wednesday’s clash in Scotland could prove absolutely crucial and three points for the hosts would go a long way to cementing their place in third.

Rodgers, whose side are unbeaten in the league and currently four points clear of Aberdeen in second, has been impressed with what he has seen since taking charge this summer and is hoping his players set the tone early against Die Fohlen.

“We showed we can compete at this level and you have to show that you can back that up and tomorrow will be another brilliant game,” the former Liverpool boss said.

“We have to set the tone for the supporters who are amazing and hopefully we will get the three points.”

Celtic are 2.75 to clinch all three points on home soil, a draw is priced at 3.40 while Monchengladbach, who are in desperate need of at least a draw, are the narrow favourites at 2.63.
