Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe has rued the decisions that went against his side following Monday’s loss at Liverpool, but he couldn’t fault the performance.

The Cherries remain without a point after two games but they have acquitted themselves reasonably well against both Aston Villa and Liverpool and Howe is convinced results will come.

Bournemouth were denied an opener at Anfield when Tommy Elphick had a goal disallowed after being judged to have impeded Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren.

The Reds then scored the only goal of the game through Christian Benteke but Philippe Coutinho appeared to be offside when he attempted to connect with Jordan Henderson’s cross before it reached the Belgian striker, which should have seen the goal ruled out under new regulations introduced this season.

Howe believes both of the key decisions went against his side but is sure they will be able to pick up points if they can continue to perform as they did at Anfield.

“It is hugely frustrating,” he told Sky Sports. “We were in the game, the big decisions have gone against us.

“The first was a goal by Tommy. If that is a free-kick then we will see free-kicks every time there is a corner.

“The new offside rule is a grey area. Under the new rules that is clearly offside. Our goalkeeper was affected by the player in front of him.

“We had a few chances tonight but the big positive is overall our performance. We know if we perform like that the results and goals will come.

“The players are winners and this is an experience we don’t want to get used to.

“I am very proud of the performance and the players. You can’t beat the decisions and the two big ones have cost us points. It is unforgiving.”

Bournemouth are 2.20 to be relegated and 3.10 to take all three points when they travel to West Ham on Saturday in the next round of Premier League fixtures.
