Barcelona captain Andres Iniesta insists his side will respond after their Super Cup defeat to Athletic Bilbao.

Bilbao did the damage in the first leg as they recorded a 4-0 victory, with the two sides playing out a 1-1 draw in the return leg on Monday.

The Catalan giants started well as Lionel Messi opened the scoring but their hopes of claiming the trophy were essentially ended when Gerard Pique was sent off in the second half.

The Blaugrana saw their bid for six trophies ended by Bilbao, however Iniesta believes Barca were the better team in the second leg.

“Maybe we were lacking a goal in the first leg to create more doubt but there’s nothing to criticise the team for,” Iniesta said.

“In the first leg we made too many mistakes and that made the game an uphill task. We were infinitely superior in the return.”

The Camp Nou outfit will push for a fifth trophy at the FIFA Club World Cup in Japan in December as European champions.

Iniesta is convinced they can take the top prize and has no concerns ahead of their La Liga opener, which is also against Athletic Bilbao club on Sunday.

He added: “Very few teams win three or four trophies. In December we’ll be going for the fifth. Until then we also have the first part of a season which will be very interesting.”

Barcelona are 1.44 to beat Bilbao on Sunday and 1.67 to win La Liga outright this season.
