Blackburn winger Craig Conway is hoping to prove his fitness ahead of this weekend’s opening match of the new Championship season against Norwich at Ewood Park.

The Scotland international has missed the last two weeks of pre-season due to a thigh injury, but he returned to training on Monday and he is now hopeful that he will be fit enough to feature against the Canaries.

He said: “I’m picking up training now and I’ve joined in with the lads the last couple of days.

So I’ll look to build it up over the week and then I’m hoping to be fine for Saturday and the season starting which I’m really looking forward to.”

The 31-year-old appeared in 35 league matches for Rovers during the 2015-16 campaign, as the club finished 15th in the final standings, but he is confident they can enjoy a more productive season this time around, and perhaps even mount a serious challenge for promotion.

He continued: “I think everybody knows from last season that we can do a lot better.

Hopefully we can get off to a good start, and take it a game at a time, but as a whole for the season we want to definitely be a lot better than last season.”

The Blue and Whites have not played in the Premier League since they were relegated in 2012, but they are available at 17.00 to earn promotion back to the top flight this season, while they are priced at 51.00 to finish top of the Championship come the end of the campaign.
