Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer is set to give Adam Henley and Corry Evans an extra few days of rest before they return to pre-season training.

Wales defender Adam Henley and Northern Ireland midfielder Corry Evans were both on duty for their countries in European Championship qualifiers earlier this month and will therefore not be expected to return at the same time as their Rovers team-mates.

With the remainder of the Ewood Park squad set to return on June 30, Bowyer is set to hand Henley and Evans a bit of extra time off.

He told the Lancashire Telegraph: “They’ve got a different programme.

“We’re in on the 30th and then they’ll have about four or five more days extra after that because training with Northern Ireland and Wales, that’s been an extra two or three weeks.

“But we’ll look after them and make sure they’re ready.”

Rovers finished in ninth place in the Championship table last season, while they also enjoyed a fine run in the FA Cup, reaching the sixth round before being edged out in a replay by Liverpool.

They can be backed at 26.00 to win the Championship next season and are 8.50 to gain promotion.

Meanwhile, Rovers are reported to be facing a fight to keep midfielder Tom Cairney at the club, with Fulham rumoured to be interested in signing the 24-year-old former Hull City man.

Cairney moved to Ewood Park in August 2013, initially on loan, and has since racked up 76 league appearances for the club, scoring eight times.
