Blackburn boss Paul Lambert was full of praise for his side despite seeing them lose 1-0 at Derby on Wednesday night.

Jacob Butterfield’s goal in the eighth minute of the match was the difference between the two sides and Rovers have now won just one of their last 11 Championship matches.

The Blue and Whites are currently eight points above the relegation zone, but Lambert believes the mid-week performance shows that his team are capable of winning more games than they lose in the division.

He said: “We played some really good stuff and I couldn’t ask for any more other than a goal. If we can play the way we did tonight we’ll win more games, that’s for sure.”

The former Aston Villa boss believes his side were the better team for large portions of the match at the iPro Stadium and was immensely proud of the way they played against Darren Wassall’s promotion-chasing Rams.

“I thought we deserved to win the game, let alone anything else,” he added. “They had one or two chances, which they’re entitled to, but I think anyone in this stadium would have seen that Blackburn Rovers were the best team.”

Rovers will be hoping to build on their encouraging display when they play host to struggling MK Dons at Ewood Park on Saturday.

The Lancashire club are available at 1.70 to secure all three points in the match, whilst the Dons are on offer at 5.50 and the draw is priced at 3.60.
