Blackburn Rovers boss Gary Bowyer admits he will not have much time to consider the futures of on-trial duo Danny Guthrie and Nathan Delfouneso.

The pair featured in Rovers’ 1-1 draw at Bury in midweek and with the Championship season now just a week away, the Ewood Park boss does not have time on his side as he mulls over a decision on the pair.

Former Aston Villa striker Delfouneso was released by Blackpool at the end of last season while ex-Newcastle man Guthrie spent the latter part of last season on loan at Fulham.

Although he is non-committal on a decision about offering contracts to the pair, Bowyer was impressed with what he saw in the game at Gigg Lane.

“We can’t have too long a look because the season starts in less than 10 days now,” he told the Lancashire Telegraph. “But obviously we’ve got to measure people’s fitness and then there’s the situation of contracts and where we can and can’t operate.

“(Nathan) is going to stay with us a little bit longer and we’ll go from there. (Danny) seems a very good lad, and we’ll see where it goes, because he certainly gave us something when he came on.”

Rovers welcome Wigan Athletic to Ewood Park on Saturday for the final pre-season encounter before the big kick-off on Saturday 8th August.

Delfouneso appears likely to get another chance to impress in the game against the Latics.

Blackburn are 2.38 to begin the new season with a home victory over Wolves at Ewood Park. Kenny Jackett’s side are 3.00 while the draw is 3.20.

Rovers are 8.00 to be promoted from the Championship next season.
