Blackburn boss Paul Lambert believes strike duo Jordan Rhodes and Fode Koita can form a strong partnership during the remainder of the season.

The pair have started the last two league games against Nottingham Forest and Reading up front together, although neither player was able to find the back of the net.

Indeed Scotland international Rhodes has only scored two in his last 12 Rovers appearances, while summer signing Koita is yet to score in 12 league outings for the Lancashire club.

Despite their lack of goals, Lambert remains convinced that the duo can form a strong partnership together, as Rovers look to close the gap on the Championship play-off positions.

He said: “I think him (Rhodes) and Fode are forming a bit of a partnership, which is pleasing.”

The former Aston Villa boss has been particularly impressed with Koita, who had not started a match since September prior to the game with Forest, and is confident the summer acquisition can continue to improve as he adapts to the English game.

He continued: “It’s a big ask for a guy to come in at this level and try and hit the ground running but the last two games he’s been very good.”

The defeat to Reading last time out was Rovers first loss since Lambert took charge of the club in November and they will be keen to return to winning ways in their next match against top-of-the-table Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The Blue and Whites are outsiders at 3.25 to win the match, while Boro are on offer at 2.25 and the draw is available at 3.10.
