Aston Villa boss Remi Garde has revealed that plans are in place for the club to bring in new recruits during the January transfer window.
Villa are currently cut adrift at the bottom of the table, five points behind closest rivals Sunderland and ten from safety heading into the festive period.
The Midlands outfit have not won a league match since the opening day of the season, with new boss Garde having only collected three points from his six games since taking the reins from Tim Sherwood.
The Villans did earn a hard fought 1-1 draw with Newcastle last time out and the Frenchman has now confirmed that plans are are afoot to bolster their survival bid with new arrivals in the New Year.
He said: “In terms of bringing players in in January it is not as easy as that. I have some ideas. We need to be in a better situation than the one we’re in today.”
The 49-year-old knows his side still have a lot of work to do, but he believes the spirit they showed against the Magpies will stand them in good stead for the rest of the campaign.
He added: “We have taken a lot of heart from the performance at Newcastle. I was very happy with the reaction in the second half, I was not very happy with the first 35 minutes. I know where we need to improve.”
Villa will hope to record their first league win in 17 matches when they take on West Ham at Villa Park on Saturday and they are available at 2.63 to secure all three points, whilst the Hammers are on offer at 2.75 and the draw is priced at 3.20.
