Bayern Munich summer signing Medhi Benatia has revealed he could not turn down the chance to work with coach Pep Guardiola.

The Moroccan defender swapped Roma for Allianz-Arena this summer and Benatia has claimed he had offers from Manchester City and Chelsea, but instead he chose the Bundesliga giants.

When asked about the clubs interested in him this summer, he told Kicker: “Manchester City and Chelsea, but there were also enquiries from Barcelona and Real Madrid.

“I did not want to miss out on that opportunity when Bayern voiced their interest.

“I perceived the offer as a huge chance, and told [Roma sporting director Walter] Sabatini that I wanted to join Bayern.

“Bayern are one of the top four clubs in the world. They play for every title year in, year out. You don’t reject such an offer.”

Bayern can be backed at 1.13 to win the Bundesliga this season and 5.00 to secure Champions League glory.

Benatia revealed the chance to work under coach Guardiola was a major draw in his decision to move to Allianz-Arena and he feels the Spaniard will help him improve as a player.

He added: “For a player, he is the best coach there is right now. He makes you better.”

The German giants have been drawn in Champions League Group E alongside Benatia’s former club Roma, English champions Manchester City and Russian outfit CSKA Moscow, with Bayern 1.53 to win the group.
