Right-back Bacary Sagna insists confidence is still high in the Manchester City squad despite Sunday’s disappointing 2-0 defeat away at title rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

City arrived at White Hart Lane boasting six straight Premier League victories and another three points would have made Pep Guardiola the first manager to win his opening seven games in the English top-flight.

However, the Citizens, who drew 3-3 with Celtic in the Champions League prior to the clash, were outplayed by their opponents as they struggled to get anything going.

An own-goal from defender Aleksandar Kolarov and a composed finish from England international Dele Alli in the box was enough to hand Spurs a 2-0 win and help the club climb to second in the table, just a point behind City.

The result could have been worse for the visitors when a penalty was awarded, but Claudio Bravo managed to save Erik Lamela’s disappointing spot-kick.

Defeat could act as a wake-up call to the former Premier League champions, who were looking unbeatable in the early stages, but Sagna says the players will not be losing any sleep after dropping points. “Honestly, I’m not worried [by the defeat].

I’m not worried,” he said. “We’re in a dominant frame of mind. We want to learn, and that’s what we’ll try to do.”

Guardiola will be hoping to bounce back to winning way on October 15 when Ronald Koeman’s Everton travel to the Etihad Stadium for a highly-anticipated clash.

The hosts, who are still firm 1.83 favourites to win the league this season, are priced at 1.44 to pick up the win, a draw is priced at 4.50 while the visitors are a 6.00 chance.
