Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson has been sacked by the club despite helping the Foxes avoid relegation from the Premier League last season.

The East Midlands outfit, who are 5.00 to be relegated in the 2015-16 campaign, looked destined for the Championship when they were rock bottom of the table at the turn of the year, but seven wins in their last 10 games were enough to keep them in the top flight.

However, that has not been enough to secure Pearson’s position for next season, as the club have highlighted “fundamental differences in perspective” between the manager and the board as the reason for the sacking.

As the club now look for a new manager, Pearson’s former assistant Craig Shakespeare and first-team coach Steve Walsh will take charge of first-team duties.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche has been linked with position, while one of the early favourites appears to be former West Ham boss Sam Allardyce who recently left his position at Upton Park.

Available as a free agent, Leicester could move quickly to secure the services of Allardyce who has also managed Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers.

The Foxes will start their 2015-16 Premier League campaign with a home clash at the King Power Stadium against Sunderland on the opening weekend before a trip to Upton Park against West Ham on August 15.

Leicester are 1.95 to beat Sunderland and 3.25 to draw while the Black Cats are 4.00 for victory.
