Summer arrival Ashley Williams feels he has given himself a great chance to learn and prolong his career by linking up with Everton boss Ronald Koeman.

Koeman was a European Cup winner with Barcelona in his stellar playing career and, as they share the same position, Williams feels he is in a great place to learn.

The 32-year-old says it is too soon to pinpoint exactly what he is picking up from his new manager, but he is clearly pleased with his summer switch from Swansea City to Merseyside.

“It’s too soon to pick out any one thing I’ve gained from working with Ronald Koeman, but he is one of the best centre-halves who ever played and I am going to be a sponge to learn from him and try to take in as much as I can of his knowledge,” Williams told the Everton website.

“Ask me later in the season and I hope I’ll be able to tell you more, but right now I am trying to settle in and find my way into his system.”

Everton have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the new season, winning both games since their opening day draw with Spurs at Goodison Park.

Koeman feels his team have given themselves a decent platform to build upon after the international break and Williams believes his move to Everton can prolong his career for both club and country.

“I feel good, I am enjoying my football and I love coming away and playing for Wales,” he added. “I want to try and keep that going for as long as possible.

“I’d like to think the move can extend my career. I wanted to stretch myself and have a new challenge.”

Everton go to Sunderland next Monday, a game Koeman’s side are 2.10 to win. The Blacks Cats are 3.60 while the draw is 3.40.
