Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hailed the improvement of Theo Walcott so far this season.
The England international has started all six Premier League matches for the Gunners so far this term, scoring three goals, including a strike during his side’s 3-0 victory over Chelsea at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
Walcott’s form this season is in stark contrast to the last campaign, when the 27-year-old only scored five goals in 28 league appearances, with only 15 of those outings coming from the start.
Wenger believes the winger is almost like a completely different player this term, and he has praised the character the former Southampton youngster has shown. “You cannot question his performance,” Wenger said.
But I believe more the change in Theo Walcott is his attitude to this season. He’s ready to fight, commit and straight away he gets the crowd behind him.
Theo Walcott of that stature is a completely different player.” The Frenchman was celebrating 20 years in charge of Arsenal during Saturday’s victory over Chelsea and he admits that he is still hungry to achieve success in north London, despite winning 15 trophies during his two decades at the helm.
“I’m hungrier because I know I don’t have 20 years in front of me,” he added. “Also I feel more responsibility, you’re not 20 years somewhere and you don’t care about things.”
Arsenal are now unbeaten in seven matches in all competitions and they will be hoping to continue that impressive run when they take on Basel in the Champions League on Wednesday.
The Gunners are available at 1.36 to secure all three points at the Emirates, while Basel are priced at 8.00 and the draw is on offer at 4.75.
