Olivier Giroud insists Arsenal could still have a chance of winning the Premier League this season, providing current leaders Chelsea slip up.

The Frenchman is one of the form players in the division after scoring twice in a 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday.

Giroud’s brace took his tally to 15 goals for the season with nine in his last nine appearances in all competitions – a run of form that has helped Arsenal record six straight wins to climb up to third in the Premier League table.

They are now just four points behind table-toppers Chelsea with eight games left to play, although Jose Mourinho’s side have played two games fewer than the Gunners.

It seems unlikely Chelsea will concede their title charge but Giroud insists Arsenal should not be written off just yet – particularly with second-placed Manchester City struggling for form before Saturday’s
2-0 win over West Brom.

“There’s still eight games to play so we need to focus on our games and step by step we’re going to see,” he told the club’s website.

“First we need to win every single game and then after we need to see if City or Chelsea miss one of these steps.

“You never know, you have to believe in football and that’s why we want to win every single game.”

Arsenal are 1.80 favourites to win the FA Cup for the second year in a row this season and Arsene Wenger’s side can also be backed at 1.88 to beat Liverpool at home in their next Premier League clash on April 4.
