Mesut Ozil says Arsenal must be on top of their game to defeat Olympiakos and reach the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The Gunners were expected to comfortably progress this season when they were drawn against the Greek outfit, German heavyweights Bayern Munich and Dinamo Zagreb.

However, it is has been a struggle for Arsene Wenger’s men and three defeats from five matches have left the club in third position heading into the crucial decider.

Arsenal need to defeat Olympiakos by a margin of two goals in Greece in order to progress but it will be no easy task, having already lost 3-2 to the same opposition at the Emirates.

The injuries are also stacking up for the English club, with the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla and Danny Welbeck all on the sidelines. Alexis Sanchez, Francois Coquelin and Mikel Arteta are also on the treatment table and so the options available to Wenger are very thin.

One positive for the Gunners is the recent form of Ozil as the German World Cup winner has already notched up 12 Premier League assists as he finally begins to show his best form.

The midfielder is under no illusions over the enormity of the task against Olympiakos, but the 27-year-old is hopeful his side can produce the right performance on the night.

“Olympiakos can play good football, and we saw that at the Emirates when they beat us 3-2,” he said. “We must really give everything so that we can get through to the next round.”

Arsenal are 2.10 favourites to win on Tuesday, the draw is priced at 3.40 while the hosts are 3.30.
