Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has played down claims that he has an unlimited transfer kitty to sign anyone in the world this summer.
Club director Lord Harris claimed in an article in the Daily Mail that after an assessment of the club’s finances, following their move to the Emirates, their bank balance was looking extremely healthy.
Harris boldly stated that the north London outfit have the ability to break their transfer record and buy anyone in world football, apart from Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Arsenal’s current record fee paid out is £42.5million for Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid in 2013, while they parted with £31.7million for Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona last summer.
However, Wenger has quickly moved to play down the comments although he is still expected to further strengthen his squad this summer, having already landed Petr Cech from Chelsea.
Wenger said: “It’s not true. We are in a situation where we are working hard if an opportunity comes up to do something.”
Meanwhile, midfielder Aaron Ramsey has reiterated his commitment to the club after playing down rumours suggesting he could join Barcelona.
The Wales international admitted it was “flattering” to be linked with the treble-winning side, but insists he is not ready to depart just yet.
The 24-year-old revealed it is something he would like to experience in the future, but for now he insists he is focussed on winning silverware with Arsenal, who are 5.00 to win the Premier League.
Ramsey said: “Obviously it’s very flattering. They did the treble last year and it’s just really nice to be linked with one of the best clubs in the world.
“One day I would like to go over to Spain to play, just to see what it’s like and to experience that. But at the moment I’m with Arsenal and I feel like this Arsenal team can go and be successful and challenge for things.”
