Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger insists that his side must not allow Newcastle’s recent form to affect the way they approach Monday night’s meeting at the Emirates.

Newcastle have struggled to find any kind of consistency in the latter stages of the term, losing the last five league games.

Wenger says that it would be wrong to enter the match with any sort of complacency as his men look to tighten their grip on the fourth and final Champions League spot.

The Gunners need to pick up two more victories from their final three Premier League outings to ensure that they secure their place in the European competition next season.

Wenger said: “You know that Newcastle have quality, so of course we have to prepare like we will face a Premier League battle.

“The exciting thing in the Premier League is that everybody fights for every game and we have to prepare for that.”

The north London club mounted a strong challenge for the title in the first half of the campaign but due to a string of injuries to key players they could not maintain the push.

Injuries have taken their toll on Wenger’s side over the course of the term but he is hopeful that with key figures available once again they will be able to manoeuvre a tricky tie on home soil.
