Antoine Griezmann has apologised to his Atletico Madrid team-mates for questioning their attacking qualities following a 4-0 rout of Celta Vigo on Saturday.

The Frenchman said Los Rojiblancos could end up “fighting relegation” prior to the international break following a 0-0 draw at Leganes.

Atletico rediscovered their devastating power up front on Saturday with a 4-0 win at Celta Vigo
and Griezmann, who assisted Koke’s opener before hitting a brace of his own, has admitted he spoke out of turn.

“I apologise for the comments, I shouldn’t have made them in public,” he told BeIN Sports. “We needed a game like that and I’m very happy for the team. We had a great match.

“We’re used to playing at a high pace during games, and we did so [on Saturday]. They had a great first half, but in the second half we did things very well.

“On a personal level, I’m also very happy. I’m still getting back up to speed, but I’m trying to give everything. I’m very happy for the goals and assist.”

Atletico head to PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League on Tuesday and back-up keeper Miguel Moya is their only confirmed absentee due to a knee problem.

Atleti are 1.83 to beat PSV and 15.00 to win the Champions League outright, having finished as the runners-up last season.

The Dutch outfit can be backed at 4.75 to claim a win on Tuesday and a draw is available at 3.50.
