Adnan Januzaj says he is desperate to prove his doubters wrong by starring for Sunderland this season.

The playmaker burst on to the scene three years ago at Manchester United but has floundered in recent times, with questions being raised about his temperament and attitude in training.

Following a poor loan spell last season at Borussia Dortmund, Januzaj recently joined the Black Cats on a temporary basis from United and is hoping to reignite his career under former mentor David Moyes.

At just 21, he still has time on his side and Januzaj has looked bright in his four appearances for Sunderland, netting the winner in the League Cup victory over Shrewsbury.

His side are yet to record their first Premier League win of the season but will be hopeful of ending that run when they meet Moyes’ former club Everton on Monday.

Sunderland are 3.60 to win, with the draw 3.40 and the Toffees are priced at 2.05.

Januzaj insists he is as determined as ever to succeed and is relishing the opportunity to play regularly following a difficult couple of years.

“It is not to re-establish myself, it is just to prove to some of the people that they were wrong (about me),” he said.

“I will work hard to show they were wrong over the past few years.

“Part of my mentality is to never give up, even if something goes a bit wrong you always have to keep working – that is what I have been doing. Now I have the chance to prove myself again.”
