Phil Taylor believes he is now close to his best form with his new darts and says he is looking forward to taking on Adrian Lewis in Thursday’s Premier League Darts clash in Bournemouth.

‘The Power’ needs to bounce back from his shock 7-0 whitewash against world champion Michael van Gerwen in the first week of the Premier League when he takes on Lewis.

Some have attributed a change of arrows as the reason for Taylor’s dip in form and the Stoke-born star has admitted he did struggle initially with the new equipment.

However, the 53-year-old won one of three Pro-Tour qualifiers he entered over the weekend and believes he is close to rediscovering his best form again – as proved when he hit two nine-dart finishes and beat Lewis 6-2 in one of the finals.

Taylor will hope for a similar outcome in Bournemouth and he says he now feels more comfortable with his new darts.

“I’m really looking forward to playing Adrian,” he said. “The weekend was great for me. It was brilliant to win Sunday’s qualifier, but overall it did me the world of good.

“I’m working hard with my new darts and it can take a bit of time to settle sometimes, but this shows that I’m going in the right direction,” he added. “After the game we’ve just had on Sunday, Adrian knows what he’s up against.”

‘The Power’ is on offer at 3.30 to win the Premier League this season, while Lewis can be backed at 4.30 to come out on top overall.
