LeBron James has committed his long-term future to the Cleveland Cavaliers by agreeing a new three-year deal that will see him eventually become the highest-paid player in NBA history.

The small forward will earn a reported $100million over the length of his contract while the $33million he will make during the 2017-18 season will see him surpass the record set by Michael Jordan during his time at the Chicago Bulls.

The 31-year-old, who is enjoying his second spell with the Cavs after rejoining them from Miami Heat in 2014, helped the team win their maiden NBA Championship during 2016, with Tyronn Lue’s side now looking to successfully defend their title.

James told Uninterrupted: “I just want to let y’all know I’m re-signing back with the Cleveland Cavaliers, my hometown team.

I can’t be more excited than this opportunity once again, man, to defend our crown, defend our title.”

The Ohio native is relishing the start of the new campaign and has praised the team’s supporters, who be believes played an integral role in their success of last season.

He added: “Without you guys (the fans), without your passion and commitment, we wouldn’t have been able to do what we did this past season.

I’m ecstatic. I can’t wait to see my guys. I can’t wait to get back out there in the wine and gold and just get the band back together.”

Cleveland are available at 4.20 to claim glory in the NBA Finals once again during 2017 while Golden State Warriors, the team they beat in last season’s Finals, are on offer at 1.70.
