London Wasps have strengthened their ranks with the addition of Italy international hooker Carlo Festuccia.
The 33-year-old arrives from RaboDirect Pro 12 side Zebra and will link up with countryman Andrea Masi at Adams Park.
Festuccia has vast experience after winning 54 caps for Italy, while he has also represented L’Aquila, Aironi and French side Racing Metro at club level.
The Italian will provide strong competition at hooker to Neil Cochrane and Tom Lindsay and Wasps director of rugby Dai Young is delighted with the move.
“It’s a great bonus to bring in Carlo, who has such strong experience,” he said. “We needed to add another hooker to the squad because there is no way we could go an entire season with just two players in an important position like that.
“Nathan Morris has gone on loan at London Welsh because we felt as a young hooker that that was better for his development, so it’s a great bonus to bring in Carlo, who has such strong experience.”
The player himself is pleased to have completed the switch and is looking forward to the new challenge.
“I am delighted to join Wasps and test myself in a new environment,” he said.
“I have played in the Pro12 and the Top 14 and always wanted to compete in the English Premiership, so this is an exciting move for me.”
