Sergio Perez is aiming to put speculation over his future at McLaren to one side by putting on a good performance for McLaren in US Grand Prix.

Reports are suggesting that the Mexican driver will be axed by McLaren after just one season with rookie Kevin Magnussen waiting in the wings to be announced as his replacement for 2014.

However, Perez, who currently lies 12th in the drivers’ standings on 35 points with only two races remaining, has adopted the USA race as his home grand prix so regards it as ‘the most important’ of his season.

Therefore he is looking to secure a good result and possibly boost his hopes of remaining with McLaren if it is not already too late.

Perez, who finished in a respectable fifth place in India, said: “This will be the most important weekend of my year.

“I’ll be especially keen for a strong result to send my fans back home with a smile on their faces.

“I think we’ve shown some solid improvement and greater understanding of our car over the past few races, yet, frustratingly, Jenson and I have had few opportunities to really demonstrate what the car is capable of.

“I’d love another chance of a race like India, where I was able to push throughout and get some strong points for the team.”
