Ferrari President Luca di Montezemolo revealed the team will be announcing early next week who will be partnering driver Fernando Alonso for 2014 campaign.

Despite falling behind rivals Red Bull over the past few years, a seat with Ferrari is still one of the most prized in Formula One.

A number of drivers have been linked with taking up the seat alongside the two-time world champion Alonso, with his current team-mate Felipe Massa struggling to maintain the high standards with the Italian outfit over the past couple of campaigns.

The Brazilian managed to secure a one-year deal at the end of last season but it is not certain whether the South American will be able to hold on to his seat for the 2014 campaign.

Lotus’ Kimi Raikkonen has been strongly linked with a return to his former team, where he managed to claim the World Drivers’ Championship back in 2007.

No decision will be made until after the important business of the Italian Grand Prix this weekend but Ferrari look set to end the speculation surrounding the potential driving line-up in the coming days.

Di Montezemelo has insisted nothing has so far been agreed with any driver but the wait to learn who will partner Alonso is nearly over.

He said: “We will take a decision in the next [few] days, and we haven’t made any kind of decision yet.

“We haven’t signed any contract with anybody. We will talk with Massa and then we will decide.

“Now is the time to make a decision.”
