Nani says he had offers to leave Manchester United but decided to stay at Old Trafford following talks with boss David Moyes.

The Portuguese winger had just under 12 months remaining on his deal and would have been able to walk away on a free transfer next summer had he not committed his future.

There was also interest from elsewhere with clubs such as Monaco known to be keen but it looks as though Moyes convinced the winger his future lies at Old Trafford.

Nani has been told he will have to battle for his place just like the rest of the squad but he is prepared to do that as United look to retain their Premier League title this season.

“I am very content with my new deal at Manchester United,” Nani revealed. “This summer was not easy but after a lot of thought and talking to David Moyes I believe it was the best solution.

“I feel I can offer many things to United. I had other important offers but without a sufficient challenge to make me want to leave United.

“The coach would not guarantee me a place in the XI more than any other player. I know I must work hard to get into this team.

“That is my objective for this season.”

There have also been suggestions that Wayne Rooney could be in line for a new deal which would be a huge boost to Moyes as he looks to fight off interest from Chelsea and Arsenal.
