Andy Murray concedes that a “fit and healthy” Juan Martin del Potro will pose a big obstacle for Team GB in their bid to reach the Davis Cup final.

Great Britain, led by Murray, won the Davis Cup last November for the first time since 1936 when they defeated Belgium.

Argentina head to Glasgow this weekend looking to end Great Britain’s reign when they clash in the semi-finals for the right to meet either France or Croatia in the final.

Del Potro, the US Open champion in 2009, is re-establishing himself as a force in men’s tennis after a torrid time with injuries.

He pushed Murray all the way in last month’s Olympic final in Rio de Janeiro before also battling into the last eight at the US Open in New York.

He may be ranked 64th in the world, but Murray has no doubts that del Potro is ready to inspire Argentina in Scotland.

“It will be a tough match obviously,” said Murray.

“He is one of the best players in the world when fit and healthy. He’s played really well over the last couple of months, had a good run in New York.

“He rarely plays poor matches when he is fit and healthy. He is very solid, a great ball striker, and he doesn’t mind playing indoors.

The conditions will be fine for him.” Murray and del Potro are likely to collide in singles action either on Friday or Sunday and the Argentine is upbeat after his recent run of form.

“I’m feeling good, I’ve been playing really good in the last month between Olympics and US Open. My level is still going up,” said del Potro.
