Novak Djokovic goes into Sunday’s French Open final against Stanislas Wawrinka looking to complete a career Grand Slam by winning all four major titles.

The 28-year-old Serbian world number one and top seed has won eight Grand Slam singles titles to date, with five coming in Australia, two at Wimbledon and one at the US Open.

Djokovic has lost two finals on the clay at Roland Garros so will look to make it third time lucky on Sunday against the 30-year-old Swiss eighth seed.

It would see him become only the eighth man to claim all four Grand Slam singles titles and he is in confident mood having taken his winning run to 28 matches courtesy of a thrilling 6-3 6-3 5-7 5-7 6-1 victory against British number one Andy Murray.

Djokovic speaking after the match, which was concluded on Saturday after bad weather forced it to be suspended on Friday evening, said:

“It wasn’t physically an easy match, that’s for sure, but I think I will be fine for the final.

“Whatever I have left in me, I will put out on the court on Sunday and hopefully it can be enough.”

He added: “Everything is coming together in my life and I’m experiencing probably the pinnacle of my career, of my life, complete person, very satisfied on and off the court, and I think it all influences my performance.”

Wawrinka, who is targeting a second Grand Slam title after winning the 2014 Australian Open, has only won three of 20 meetings with Djokovic.

But he hopes his opponent’s desire to break his duck in Paris will work in his favour when they go head-to-head on court.

He said: “He’s been amazing so far this year, winning every big title, playing his best test tennis ever.

“But he’s never won the French Open. For sure we’re both going to be nervous. That’s a fact.”

Djokovic is 1.13 to win the French Open final, while Wawrinka can be backed at 5.50.
