Caroline Wozniacki insists she is confident of going all the way this week after beating Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova to reach the semi-finals of the US Open.
The Dane has now slipped to 74th in the world but she showed glimpses of her former self on Tuesday night.
She showed plenty of power during her 6-0 6-2 win but the 26-year-old was helped by the fact that Sevastova suffered an ankle injury in the opening point of the second game.
The former world number one will now take on world number two Angelique Kerber in the final four, her first semi-final for two years.
Wozniacki, 12.00 to win the tournament, has reached the final at Flushing Meadows on two occasions but she was beaten by Kim Clijsters in 2009 and Serena Williams in 2014.
The Odense-born star has been linked with retirement after some disappointing displays at the Grand Slams so far.
She lost in the first round of the Australian Open and Wimbledon and had to miss the French Open with an ankle injury.
Despite her lack of consistency, Wozniacki insists she is not thinking about retiring and has her heart set on a Grand Slam win.
“I don’t want to really talk about that now. When I feel ready to open up and say something, then I will. But for now, I’m just here to play this tournament,” she told reporters.
“I always believe in myself, no matter what my ranking. I’ve beaten pretty much everyone in the draw before.”
