Former South Africa assistant coach Alan Solomons says there is plenty of potential at Edinburgh having been announced as the new head coach of RaboDirect Pro12 outfit.
The Scottish side have been searching for a permanent boss while Steve Scott, who will now work alongside Solomons as a forwards coach, was at the helm on an interim basis.
Solomons was part of the Springboks set-up during a successful time for the national side under head coach Nick Mallett, as they went on a 17-Test unbeaten streak while he was on the management team in the late 90s.
Having spent time with the Western Stormers, Ulster and most recently the Southern Kings in their first season in Super Rugby, the 62-year-old is now looking to turn Edinburgh into an outfit capable of challenging for silverware.
Solomons is relishing the prospect of working in the Scottish capital and feels Edinburgh, who endured a disappointing campaign last season, are capable of bringing success to the club game north of the border.
He said: “This is a very exciting role at a club which has a huge amount of potential.
“The ambition and desire of everyone involved with the club to do whatever it takes to build its success, and the plans being put in place to achieve that, are very impressive.
“I’m very much looking forward to arriving in Edinburgh, teaming up with Stevie (Scott) and meeting the challenges head on.”
