Cardiff Blues are keen to tie star man Sam Warburton down to a new deal but the Wales captain is in no rush to agree new terms.
Warburton, who captained the British & Irish Lions on their summer tour of Australia, is out of contract at the end of the 2013-14 season and the Blues are eager to extend his stay.
The 24-year-old hasn’t ruled out extending his deal with Cardiff but Warburton is relaxed over negotiations and expects them to resume at some stage in the new season.
“I’ve still got 12 months, still a relatively long time, so I’ve got a whole season to make that decision,” Warburton said.
“Because we’ve been away on the Lions tour, the full focus was with the Lions.
“Since I’ve come back I’ve pretty much laid low and spent some time with family.
“We’re going back into the Blues next week and then you can focus on the new season and your future.
“I guess that’s when negotiations may start, sometime in the new season.”
Cardiff Blues are also trying to convince fellow Wales international Leigh Halfpenny to ink a new deal with the club.
Halfpenny, who was the Lions’ man of the series earlier this summer as they sealed a 2-1 series win over the Wallabies, is also out of contract at the end of the 2013-14 season.
